I’m using Lumix LX100 before. It’s really good camera for Street Photography. Small, light, and produce quite sharp images. But it’s has fixed lens that you can’t change, even though it has zoom lens 24-70mm f1.7-2.8, Leica branded. So, after struggling to convince myself, that this camera is enough for me until now, I lose. Hahah. I want to try different focal length and different lenses. Then I choose to buy this mirrorless camera, Fujifilm X-T20 with Fujinon 35mm f1.4 lens.
It’s already 2 months since I buy this camera. And I have some pros and cons in my mind for this camera. I will not explain about technical specs, just based on my experience with this camera.
Lightweight and Small
Yeah, X-T20 is almost like Lumix LX100 in terms of dimension. It’s small. It’s a bit heavier actually, but it depends on what lens do you use. When I use it with Fujinon 35mm f1.4, it’s quite heavy at the front of camera but still okay to carry around with one hand. If you use pancake lens like Fujinon 27mm f2.8 maybe it will much more lighter (I plan to buy this lens.. haha).
Enjoyable Control Dial
One thing I like from Lumix LX100, it has fully control dial for Aperture and Shutter Speed. Since LX100 dial concept was inspired by Fuji X100-series (CMIIW), this dial concept is also applied to for Fuji X-T series. And also, many Fuji Lenses has aperture dial in it. So it will bring the joy of controlling of the camera like LX100.
Tilt & Touchscreen Baby !!!
Yeah !! Finally I got tilting LCD screen.. Hahah. It will helpful when shooting with low and high angle. Also it has touchscreen that really helpful to setup your camera and have some function when shooting like adjusting focus area, setup autofocus, and also shot with tapping the screen.
Superb Image Quality
I must say that Image Quality for this camera setup (X-T20 body + 35mm f1.4 lens) is really awesome. The detail is super crisps. And super handy in low light situation. I use this camera to shoot portrait at night and the result was really good.
Not Really Good Autofocus
Based on my experiences using this camera, I feel that this camera autofocus speed and accuracy still lack behind from my previous LX100. It’s quite hard to get candid moment like I usually do. Fujinon 35mm f1.4 autofocus is not the best autofocus in Fuji lens lineups. If you want to shoot some candid moment on the street, maybe Fujinon 23mm f2 will become much better option (I plan to buy this lens too.. hahah)
2 months using this Fuji X-T20 on the street, despite of the pros and cons that I already explain before, it was fun! Really. It’s small, light, and easy to carry for your everyday shoot. And the Fujinon 35 mm f.14 sure has fantastic image quality. Changing from zoom lens to prime lens, makes it really challenging to move your body to compose the frame. But I think 35mm in APSC (50mm in full frame) it’s quite tight for me, but maybe works for other street photographer. This setup is really good for capturing street portrait or doing portrait, especially for night photoshoot (thanks for its fast aperture). Not quite good for candid shooter because of the autofocus but sometimes it still can keep up with your desire.
The most important thing is to have fun while capturing photos.
Thank you !!
