Why Fujinon 23mm f/2 always attached on my camera body everyday

Updated: Jun 18

Yeah, I’m Fujifilm user and right now I'm using Fujifilm X-T20 as my main camera. Last time, I bought this camera along with Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 lens aannddd…… it was really good combination. But, somehow I feel like this focal length is really narrow and doesn’t fit really well with my vision, especially for street photography. I always believe that great lens is the one that can give us an image exactly the same as photographer vision, so I decided to look at wider focal length and give it a try to Fujinon 23mm f/2. And I fell in love with it.

After 10 months using this lens, I think this is right time to share my experience when using this lens while shooting on the street

Really small and lightweight

The dimension of this lens is really small, even though you put the lens cap on it. This make the lens much low profile so it’s not really appealing for people to look at it when I shooting on the street. And I couldn’t say anything about the weight, even though this camera build from metal and really sturdy, it’s still really light. It makes my camera much lighter, even I can carry it with only my 3 fingers when walking on the street (please don’t do this if you love your camera).

Ridiculously silent and fast autofocus

Compared to my Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 lens, this lens is like mocking that lens in terms of autofocus. It’s really silent, almost had no sound while focusing. The speed is also really amazing and it really help me to catch the moment on the street, which is the most important thing in street photography.

No need to worry to shoot in rain

And yes, it’s weather resistant !! Shooting in the middle on the rain will be much easier and don’t have to cover the lens from water splash (even though my camera body still not weather resistant.. hahah)

It’s f/2

This lens has very good image quality even though I feel like it has different character with Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 that I use before. It’s good but not great for night photography. For those who think that bokeh is everything, then this lens is not really for you.

The f/2 line up from Fujinon lens is really interesting. It has superb build quality and also very small and lightweight, make this lens is really good for everyday use, which is really great for street photography. Personally, I prefer to use aperture within range f/5.6 – f/11 while shooting on the street, so only have f/2 doesn’t really bother me at all. 23 mm focal length is also really versatile to shoot everything, from street until portrait.

But for you who had deeply interest in portrait, like and really often to shoot at low light, or looking for really nice and creamy bokeh, I think this lens is not really that you want.

Because of that, Fujinon 23mm f/2 becomes my favorite and it always attached in my X-T20 body. I brought it everywhere I go and never disappoint with its performance. And because of this great combination, I consider to buy X100F someday.. hahah

Anyway, Happy Shooting !!
